Living Better Food & Drink: Creative Cocktails - The Shark Attack at Lucy’s Retired Surfers Bar & Restaurant
Tales of the Cocktail was founded in New Orleans in 2002. It began as a walking tour, a sort of sophisticated bar crawl, and morphed into an international cocktail festival. It is also a worthy non-profit organization that supports the hospitality industry. You can read more about this admirable organization, Tales of the Cocktail here.
I’ve perused the categories of Tales of the Cocktail’s Spirited Awards and they tend to honor venues and people - the bars and teams that serve us. In addition, there are media and writing accolades (I’ll be waiting on my award). I found honors given for the World’s Best Spirits Selection, the World’s Best Cocktail Menu and the Best New Spirit or Cocktail Ingredient.
However, I could not find an individual drink division so I will inaugurate my own. As a nominee for the Living Better Most Creative Cocktail Awards…
For Best Original Cocktail:
I present - The Shark Attack from Lucy’s Retired Surfers Bar & Restaurant.
This libation could be nominated for the Best Supporting Hematologic Theme drink or Best Cartilaginous Fish Adaptation cocktail.
Found at Lucy’s Retired Surfers Bar & Restaurant. I imbibed this Shark Attack in New Orleans but Lucy’s has locations in Aruba, Biloxi, Key West and Owa. Listed as one of the venue’s Primo Classic Cocktails, the Shark Attack is a citrusy concoction of not one, but three alcohols - vodka, gin, and rum. Also added, to quote the menu is sour mix and “the blood of its victims. Mermaids beware!”. In addition to an enjoyable adult beverage it could also be used as an alcohol antiseptic for Jaws lacerations. And you get to keep the shark!
Lucy’s byline is “Taking a Bite Out of Life” refers to their food but it seems their cocktails could take a bite out of you.
I will have to make another trip to Lucy’s to try the Scorpion Shot and the Da’ Killer Blue Whale to obtain my nominees for the next Living Better Creative Cocktail Awards. Check out Lucy’s here.
